Interestingly, Fox nut or lotus seeds are an aquatic crop, commonly known as Makhana is full of nutrition.  This organic non cereal food is extensively grown in the stagnant water of ponds and lakes. This is mainly cultivated for its edible seeds which look like popcorn.

Makhana is highly nutritious food that has been used as a snack all over and also used in different recipes especially in Indian cuisines. Low in fat and high in carbohydrates makes it a healthy and tasty snack.

The low sodium and high magnesium and potassium content make Makhana useful for those suffering from heart diseases, high blood pressure and obesity.
